Common Electric Water Heater Issues

 Posted Thursday, October 13, 2015.

It’s getting cold outside in Chelmsford and the surrounding areas, and there’s nothing better than warming up with a nice hot shower. These days, homes have electric water heaters which have proven to be more cost effective and efficient.

Unfortunately, even electric water heaters need service and maintenance every once in a while, and the last thing any homeowner wants to experience is a cold or malfunctioning shower. Here are a few common issues you might run into if you own an electric water heater:

  • No hot water
  • Inadequate or inconsistent hot water
  • Water is too hot
  • Leaking water storage tank
  • Leaking water pipe
  • Rusty colored water
  • Rotten egg/sulfur smell
  • Low rumbling or popping noises
  • High-pitched whining

Causes of Hot Water Issues

The most common issue is a lack of power to the heater due to a tripped circuit or a blown fuse. This can easily be fixed with a simple reset of the circuit breaker or a replacement for a blown fuse. Another cause for insufficient hot water is that demand is too high due to overuse. A quick solution: Installing a larger water heater to meet demands.

If you notice a leaking water tank, then there is most likely a corrosion problem. Any leaks in the heating system require the careful inspection of a professional heating company. Contact Nazzaro & Sons Plumbing & Heating for an inspection and repair today! Don’t wait another day without hot water!
